Works are underway to create and attract events to cement the NT as a pilgrimage destination to experience Australian Military history.
An inaugural ‘Territory Tribute’ will run over 9 weeks from 19 February 2019 to 25 April 2019 beginning at Bombing of Darwin Day Commemorations at the Cenotaph in Bicentennial Park with events leading up to Anzac Day. It will focus on the role that the Top End played in World War II and Darwin’s unique military history will be shared with both visitors and Territorians, through a program of events and participation by tourism operators. The Territory Tribute program will include a twilight concert “Overture to Peace” conducted by John Foreman OAM, a three-day curated International Military Writers' Festival led by Peter Fitzsimons AM, the World's Greatest Two-up School and Last Post Ceremonies, culminating in Anzac Day Dawn Services in Darwin and across the Territory.
