The Litchfield Central Valley development is an exciting Turbocharging Tourism initiative to open new campgrounds and swimming holes in Litchfield National Park.
In February 2019, the NT Government announced additional funding of $6.2 million to fast track the project, create jobs and ensure access to the new swimming spots through the construction of new 4WD tracks.
The funding announcement brings the total investment of the project to $17.5 million.
The project will be carried out in two stages:
- Stage 1: Construction of approximately 18km of unsealed road and tracks suitable for 4WDs from Litchfield Park Road to the location of the new swimming holes.
- Stage 2: Construction of infrastructure at the site of the new swimming holes including campgrounds, walking and mountain bike trails, viewing platforms, picnic areas and car parking.
The new investment and development will ease overcrowding within Litchfield National Park, providing capacity to accommodate an additional 400 visitors per day or approximately 60,000 visitors per year.
The NT Government have released a tender for Stage 1 works which are expected to be completed in December 2019.
