The Litchfield Central Valley development is an exciting Turbocharging Tourism initiative to open new campgrounds and swimming holes in Litchfield National Park.
In February 2019, the NT Government announced additional funding of $6.2 million to fast track the project, create jobs and ensure access to the new swimming spots through the construction of new 4WD tracks.
The funding announcement brings the total investment of the project to $17.5 million.
The project will be carried out in stages:
- Stage 1: Construction of approximately 18km of unsealed road and tracks suitable for 4WDs from Litchfield Park Road to the location of the new swimming holes. Works are currently underway by local firm Aldebaran Contracting Pty Ltd with completion anticipated in June 2020.
- Stage 2: Design of new campgrounds and recreation areas. Stage 2 is complete.
- Stage 3: Construction of infrastructure at the site including campsites and access roads. The tender was released in May 2020.
- Stage 4: Construction of infrastructure at the site including the remaining campgrounds, walking and mountain bike trails, viewing platforms, picnic areas and car parking. The tender is anticipated to be released in July 2020.
